Elevated Emotions and the Science behind how they can Boost Health and Immunity

There is no denying it’s a stressful time as things continue to escalate in relation to Covid-19, and haven’t we seen some downright crazy things – from the brothers in New York who cleared out all local stores and amassed 17,000 bottles of hand sanitisers to sell at a profit, to the women in Australia fighting over stockpiling toilet paper rolls.  There are differing points of view, and it’s hard to know what information is reliable.  The economy has taken a huge hit and livelihoods are at risk. However, there is an ever-growing body of scientific research we can draw on and implement easily, that have been proven to boost the immune system and help you to feel more calm during adversity. “We have lots of data pointing to the same conclusion over and over again – that the control we have over our health and well being is far greater than most people realise” – Ellen Langer, PHD, Professor of Psychology, Harvard University This post will share insights that can help you shift from stress and fear into the elevated emotions associated with boosting immunity and emotional well being. Thoughts and Emotions Our thoughts and emotions affect every cell in our body, and they even have the power to change our genes.  Stress, fear, anger and other survival emotions take a toll on both physical and mental health – they can go as far as suppressing the immune system.  Stress is a well known contributing factor to the onset and exacerbation of most serious illnesses and disease.  The flip side is that elevated emotions such as kindness, compassion, gratitude...
Don’t Let your Past Steal from your Future

Don’t Let your Past Steal from your Future

Life happens, both the ups and the downs.  But we have a choice.  We  can carry the negative stuff with us, like dragging heavy baggage,  making it difficult to move forward or preventing us from achieving our goals,  OR,  we can identify the limiting or sabotaging beliefs  and change them. Hypnotherapy is a powerful ally to change beliefs Forget about the entertainment hypnotists you’ve seen on dramatised TV or stage shows – I’m going to share with you what a powerful ally hypnosis can be when used in a therapeutic setting, where there is no need to cluck like a chicken or dance like Elvis! I use hypnotherapy to help you overcome challenges in life – including limiting beliefs, phobias or infertility challenges – that are holding you back from achieving your true potential or from living the life you truly wish to live. I use hypnotic techniques to help you identify and provide insight to the events that shaped your beliefs and which have formed unconscious blocks or self-sabotage, so that you can overcome past events, giving you more freedom, more success and, for my fertility clients, fulfilling your dream of becoming parents. How beliefs are formed The perception you have about the things that have happened to you, as well as the opinions of others, have shaped your beliefs. Most beliefs are formed when you were young, before your brain’s critical capacity to evaluate information was fully developed.   Up until around 10-12 years old you take almost everything quite literally and as fact, especially if it came from someone in a position of perceived power – such as...
Let’s Talk Fertility ~Part 3 of my Birth Hypnosis Interview

Let’s Talk Fertility ~Part 3 of my Birth Hypnosis Interview

In the last part of my interview on If Only They’d Told Me, I talk with Natalie about how hypnosis can help with fertility, and share the results of an amazing study where hypnotic relaxation alone increased the success rates of an IVF procedure by 50%! Trying to get pregnant?  Hypnosis helps Fertility N. And fertility – can we just talk about that for a little bit because there are obviously lots of people out there that are wanting to get pregnant and are just struggling with it, some people going down IVF and other routes.  So you can help people that are struggling with fertility? R. Yes.  I do.  Whether that is working alongside them when they are doing the IVF process – for example: there was a study done in Israel where, just at the time of implantation, purely by being in hypnotic relaxation (none of the other hypnotherapy that you do normally with fertility sessions, but just being hypnotically relaxed at implantation alone) had a 50% success rate over the control group, so in other words the women who had had hypnosis at the time of implementation, 50% more of them got pregnant through the IVF than those who didn’t have the hypnotic relaxation. N. Yeah it seems (I haven’t been through it myself but I’ve got a lot of friends who have been) and it seems to be quite a clinical medical experience and so, having something like hypnosis to… R. It is.  And it’s a very stressful process.  And the way stress works is, if you think back to the day where we had to...
Do your beliefs support or hinder your success?

Do your beliefs support or hinder your success?

I was honoured and excited to be asked to be on the Business Women Panel in the Venus Magazine – a magazine for New Zealand women in business.  The focus of this issue is beliefs and how they can impact your business and career. I have worked with several business women who felt they were limiting or self sabotaging their success – helping them to uncover these beliefs and replacing them with ones that supported them to achieve their goals.  Here’s my interview about beliefs for the Business Women Panel:   Have you consciously examined your own beliefs as part of your development as a business woman? As a Clinical Hypnotherapist I recognise the benefits of aligning conscious thought and unconscious behaviours with my goals.  Beliefs are held at a subconscious level so hypnosis helps me identify and transform beliefs that can limit my success, and gives me the confidence in my ability to make a real difference in my clients’ lives. Do you believe it is valuable for every businesswoman to become aware of her own beliefs and self-talk around her business? Absolutely! We unconsciously act in accordance with what we believe, so our beliefs determine our behaviours and success.  If you’re not aware of your beliefs and self-talk, how do you know if they’re supporting, limiting, or self-sabotaging your progress? In your role, what kind of beliefs have you noticed hold women back in business? A fear of public speaking or presenting to groups is a common belief which often results in missed business opportunities.  Undervalued self-worth is also common, by changing these beliefs business women become...
