Birth Hypnosis Testimonials
“Not only did birth hypnosis help me through a fairly complicated birth, it aided me so much in the final stages of my pregnancy. I would look forward to my sessions with Rebecca – they would never fail to calm and relax me. In addition, her soothing recordings were the only thing that would ease me back to sleep in the early hours of the morning on those restless nights prior to my son’s arrival. My ‘plan’ for birthing Austin didn’t quite go as expected but I was able to remain at peace throughout the experience. After my unscheduled caesarean, the nurses on duty referred to me as “the one who doesn’t ask for pain relief”. Taking into account that I’d just had major surgery, I can only thank Rebecca for teaching me that it was possible to get myself into a state of mind where any discomfort was totally manageable”Natalie Mason
“I started off the process of hypno birthing with Rebecca sceptical but with an open mind, however I was sold after the first session! I can’t recall feeling so relaxed in both body and mind as I did after the first session. Each session and daily tracks progressively helped me in maintaining low stress levels despite a very hectic work and personal life and kept me very calm through my final trimester. Both myself and my husband think that this contributed a lot to our wee man, Nathaniel being a super chill and easy baby on us new parents.
The sessions and techniques have continued to be brilliant post birth to help me get to sleep, be calm and relaxed and really enjoy just being with our new arrival. While my birth didn’t go to plan (whose do!) and I wasn’t able to have a natural delivery, this process still enabled me to be focussed on the outcome of holding Nate in my arms and not to get anxious through the labour – Nate came at exactly the right time, in exactly the right way! I would (and have) highly recommend Rebecca and birth hypnosis”Caroline Henwood
I am normally skeptical about alternative therapies and was happy to have any medical intervention required during the delivery. However I decided to trial birth hypnosis to assist with labouring prior to going to hospital. Rebecca’s sessions were invaluable prior to delivery and during. I am a very active person and both the practical sessions and audio guides ensured I took time to relax and focus on my unborn child and mentally prepare for the delivery.
During the delivery, my baby was found to be breech and I ended up delivering her with no pain relief. The mental preparation I had done prior with Rebecca and the breathing control from the text book she provided enabled me to do this. Thank you Rebecca.”Louise Hunter
“Thank you so much for the birth hypnosis training. I really, really enjoyed our sessions. When you are busy with life you sometimes forget you’re pregnant and that you’ll soon have a baby. I relished my practise and sessions with you as a time to focus on that and bond with my bump. Luke arrived by emergency c-section due to OP presentation and failure to progress – however I laboured at home over 24hrs to 7cm easily, with 10 hours of contractions 3 mins apart – managed with TENs and your audio – it was very helpful.
I believe the birth hypnosis prepared me to cope splendidly calmly with having to go to theatre for the emergency c-section. I’m surprised how I was able to remain calm about it, especially because being in the medical profession I was well aware of what it all meant. I would highly recommend it to anyone. Thanks heaps”Ruth Baxter
“We have a beautiful baby girl Phoebe who arrived three weeks early. Things did not go quite as expected but that is always the way! Thanks for all your help as really do believe that the work I put in with you before hand played a significant role in the birth experience we had.
I developed cholestasis of pregnancy and the best and safest intervention was to deliver by 37 weeks. Thankfully the induction was pretty straight forward. I did have a pretty uncomfortable procedure with a balloon catheter to get me dilated enough to break my waters. Once my waters were broken it was a really intense and fast two hour labour.
The strategies that helped me the most were going back to strong visions that I had created so long ago. One being the place that I had created that I always used to go into hypnosis and the other being the control room from our sessions where I could visualise that everything was set, adjusted and ready to go. It was incredibly helpful when I had the catheter procedure to work with the contractions that that created.
At the time of transition when I was at my worst I was surprised that I could centre myself again and draw on the strength I needed to push Phoebe out. I managed without any pain relief which was a massive goal that I had set.
The other thing of note was the work we had done on my past difficult experience of being in theatre. There was a higher chance of intervention, possibly a C section if the induction did not work. Previously that would have sent me into a total spin but I was able to be calm about it and could imagine going into theatre and getting through it. Fortunately that did not happen and we had a wonderful experience.”Leisa H
“I was extremely nervous about the looming prospect of giving birth. I approached Rebecca for some relaxation and self-hynotising techniques. The six sessions I had with her were invaluable – I was reasonably relaxed when I was in labour and didn’t end up requiring any additional pain relief. Many thanks!”Anna
I first meet Rebecca when my husband and I were just starting to see a Fertility Specialist after having experienced a miscarriage when trying for our second baby (I also have polycystic ovarian syndrome). I was a bit unsure at first about seeing a hypnotherapist for fertility but after talking with Rebecca I could quickly tell she was very experienced. Fertility is a sensitive issue and a hugely emotional journey. I found my sessions with Rebecca provided a significant source of support during this time and drastically reduced my stress levels. Most importantly Rebecca taught me ways to condition my mind and work through the impact my miscarriage had.
We were extremely lucky to conceive during the time I was seeing Rebecca. Our journey did not stop there. Having gone through a miscarriage, early pregnancy was both a anxious and exhausting time. Again my work with Rebecca here was invaluable. Her 20 minute hypnotherapy audio-sessions was something I did daily throughout the course of my pregnancy which helped give my body much needed rest when I was not able to sleep.
It was only natural that I again went to see Rebecca for some birth hypnotherapy sessions prior to our son being born. Although I was only able to see Rebecca for one session (I needed to be induced early due to having sever pelvic arthropathy) our previous work together still meant even one session was invaluable. My labour was a lot more intense due to a combination of factors including being induced, my pelvic arthropathy and having a posterior baby).
All the techniques Rebecca taught me enable me to hold off using pain relief for as long as possible and keep my mind calm so that when I did end up having an epidural, I was still able to push my baby out without assistance. I would recommend Rebecca for any one going through fertility treatment and as part of your preparation for birth. Not only will you get the benefits of hypnotherapy but also the care and empathy that you really need during such a time of change.Julie Bhosale
“Just wanted to say thank you so much for the time you spent with me getting me in the right mindset for IVF. Since listening to your audios I’ve gone from not being able to imagine holding our baby and barely able to imagine a baby belly to being able to imagine the nursery in intricate detail and all the experiences of parenthood like it will actually happen. While our journey isn’t over yet being able to get excited about the future we are hoping to create is wonderful. Thank you for reigniting my hope xx”Michelle K
During my gruelling 4 year fertility journey, one of the highlights was being helped by Rebecca from Shine Hypnosis. Because I have had hypnotherapy training myself in the past, and have successfully used it in other areas of my life,I knew that hypnosis would help me through the physical, emotional, and mental parts of the fertility process.
I sought Rebecca out to prepare for my IUI cycles, self insemination and later, IVF cycles.
Rebecca is very knowledgeable about fertility and what it takes to achieve a healthy pregnancy. She knows just how to talk to the mind and body to affect the right conditions and adjustments for this outcome. She adapts language and imagery to suit her individual clients too, depending on their beliefs and needs.
Her sessions were nurturing, reassuring and life changing. The personalised tracks that were recorded were essential for me to listen to repeatedly, and kept me sane throughout everything I endured.
At the last IVF cycle the nurses, my acupuncturist and other staff were also very impressed with the hypnotic preparation track that I had running on speakers right before my transfer, and asked after who had recorded it for me. It was at this session that I finally became pregnant, in my late 40’s.
Now, several months into my healthy pregnancy, I’ve been back for sessions to prepare me for birth – my chosen one being as natural as possible. I’m looking forward to a smooth, event free hypno-birth. Her recorded tracks are definitely helping me become confident and are removing my fears surrounding birth.
I recommend Rebecca’s hypnotherapy sessions to any women who is attempting conception, pregnancy and birth. I know our sessions have contributed to my positive outcome.Naomi Starr
“Thank you so much for the session today, I was a bit nervous about what it would involve having never done hypnotherapy before but I really enjoyed it and found you extremely empathetic, understanding and knowledge about our fertility challenge and already I feel armed with tools to help create the optimal environment for fertility – thank you! I look forward to taking time to practice relaxing this week and to our next session. I have already read your blogs and think they are great!”Name withheld for privacy
Fear, Phobia & Aversion Testimonials
“All my life just the thought of going into water, or even near water, has had my heart beating like crazy, sweating, dizzy and nausea. After just 3 sessions with Rebecca at Shine Hypnosis I have no fear, it’s amazing! I haven’t been swimming yet (wrong time of year) but I know I will and its exciting. It feels so invigorating not to be controlled by that fear and know my children won’t pick up on it, that water and I can be a part of their lives growing up in ways that I missed out on in my own childhood and teenage years. It’s so liberating – if you have anything that controls you like that, take the control back and get yourself a life. When I think about water, swimming, even walking along the edge of the harbour I feel nothing but calm. If you’ve come as far as reading this website then you’re ready to make the call or send an email. I promise its worth it!”Rebecca Sullivan
“I went to Rebecca at Shine Hypnosis for help with an extreme fear of snakes. My fear was so much that, the thought in my mind of a snake, the word itself, being in a conversation about them, seeing a picture online/paper or god forbid seeing something on tv – I would instantly start shaking all over, and have tears in my eyes even! I was off to Mexico for a holiday and I really wanted to be able to relax and enjoy my time by the pool without being petrified and having this fear take over my every thought while I was there.
I have to say, the whole process with Rebecca was beyond fantastic, the results after my sessions at Shine I am beyond surprised! I still find myself shocked if I see an article online, that I am now opening that article, STARING at the picture and I’m intrigued! My holiday in Mexico was pure bliss – I did think about snakes a couple of times, but it was more because I WANTED to see one, to see how they move, what they look etc… INCREDIBLE.
Every session with Rebecca was completely relaxing, I as everyone I’m sure, was petrified at first about having to “face my fear” in my mind, but this was never once an issue. Everything was calm, slow and relaxing. In addition to being more “cured” than I could have ever dreamed of, I also learnt fantastic relaxation and calming techniques, and I still do listen to the copy of one of our sessions to help relax often.
If you have any doubt, worry, about facing a fear through hypnosis, or if you are skeptical that hypnosis works, please please do not hesitate to go to Shine Hypnosis and see Rebecca – it really is one of the most amazing things I have ever done for myself, and I know my life will be so much better now not having to live in terror anytime I travel outside of NZ!
Thank you sooo much Rebecca”.Kerensa
“I would recommend Shine Hypnosis to anyone wanting to overcome a fear or needing pain relief for birthing. Even my family couldn’t believe how well it worked for my needle phobia. I couldn’t even be in the same room as people talking about them to now having had many blood tests and thinking not too much about it. Also lead to a relatively pain free birthing, Amazing!”Katy Antwis
“In early 2018 I had a series of hypnotherapy sessions with Rebecca Ashton. For many years I had suffered from a fear of heights. So I would only drive over the middle lanes of the Auckland Harbour Bridge and in tall buildings I would stay away from windows and looking down. In 2017 on a family holiday to North Wales, the family walked across the famous Thomas Telford Aquaduct at Pontcysyllte but I could not even venture on to the approach path.
I decided in early 2018 that I needed to try to do something remedial about this fear of heights. Instead of working around it all the time, but to address the fear head on. So I approached hypnotherapy with an open mind.
The challenge is that you go through the sessions, and they went very well indeed, but you have no idea if they work, until you start to challenge yourself. I started by driving over the Auckland Harbour Bridge on the “outer lanes”. And No Problem.
The next challenge was to drive over the Brisbane River Bridge on the Gold Coast Motorway – previously I had my wife drive this for me- again I managed it, was a bit nervous, but we did it!! From there I have not looked back and now keep challenging myself, and in July 2019 I not only took a boat ride across the Pontcysyllte Aquaduct, I walked out on to the middle of it too.
REBECCA gave me the techniques and tools to conquer my fears and I highly recommend her services to anyone.”
Update Aug 2019: “My wife and I have just had three days tramping in the Lake District involving some rock climbing / scrambling and vertiginous ledges AND no problems for me, I am very focused on where I put my feet but very comfortable with enjoying the views!!Peter Harland
“Working through a phobia has helped me experience more freedom and the bonus of stress relief. An incident when I was eleven years old left me with a phobia of staying home alone overnight. After 3 sessions I’m thrilled to share that my fear of staying home alone is now down to a 2/10 (from a petrified 9/10) and is dependent on the level of stress in my life at the time. I am so grateful to Rebecca for helping me with this phobia.
What I also received that I wasn’t expecting, was help with my stress levels. I experienced such deep calm and relaxation from each of the three sessions. I also have introduced a new habit of listening to the relaxation audio that she gave me. This has helped me feel happier, calmer and more relaxed as I go about building Venus Network with my team.
I will be continuing my work with Rebecca to support my mind and body to operate from a relaxed, stress-free space, as I know it has a dramatic impact on the quality of my life and the success of my business.”

“I had a hypnotherapy session with Rebecca Armstrong on 18 April. The purpose of the session was to address issues I was experiencing around my phobia with birds. Rebecca was very friendly and welcoming. She was able to put me at ease and answered my questions about the session very fully. I felt I was able to relax quite quickly and , although this was a new experience for me, I found Rebecca’s professionalism most reassuring.
During the session I felt calm and relaxed and quite restful. I am delighted to say that I feel a lot more in control of my phobia and have used the relaxation strategies that I learned from Rebecca on several occasions and found them to be most helpful. I have since enjoyed a visit to a bird sanctuary on holiday with my family, something I previously was unable to do because of my phobia. I would definitely return for further sessions with Rebecca if these are required. With thanks”.Janet
“I highly recommend Rebecca Armstrong from Shine Hypnosis in overcoming limiting Phobias!! She is a qualified hypnotherapist whom after only x3 sessions assisted me to overcome a childhood phobia fear of snakes!!
I recently travelled back to Africa and was able to “face my fear” and visited a reptile park without my automatic flight response engaging; instead, I quietly observed and remained calm & composed!! Thank You Rebecca for assisting me as a professional through this process”Jayshree Nayee
“Rebecca made me feel very relaxed from the moment I entered for the hypnotherapy session. I felt very at ease and everything was explained to me well from the outset. I have definitely noticed a great improvement in my reaction to people around me licking their fingers before turning pages. Well worthwhile and it has helped my work and social life immensely.”SD

“As a professional entertainer, I’ve spent many years under the critical public eye. I’ve had some great successes but felt that something was holding me back from experiencing my greatest potential. Was it years of internalising that criticism resulting in my own self sabotage? Or was it something else?
As a story teller and lecturer in the power of storytelling end effective technique for children’s development I understood that a belief is a story we continue to tell ourselves and as the old story wasn’t necessarily working, Rebecca offered to help me write a new one. I have relished the time she spent with me ‘carving up my brain’ as I like to call it and the experience itself was phenomenal. Not only did she gently guide me down into deep relaxation, she took me on the most beautiful voyage of self discovery, safely unlocking the doors to my subconscious and exploring the contents. I was amazed to discover one tiny thought that I have held onto was easy to acknowledge and heal under Rebecca’s expert guidance and the journey forward has been healing and amazing.
It basically unlocked the key to many years of self sabotage and the understanding that a particular situation wasn’t my fault. This simple and innocent situation affected my personal and professional life and prevented me moving forward. Rebecca helped me pick up the pen and start writing a new story for which I will be eternally grateful. I now have so much more faith and belief in myself and this has greatly resulted in a happier life, happier me and the best business success to date!! Thanks Rebecca x”Monique Bradley
“Rebecca and the Hypnotherapy was great. Now I am much more relaxed approaching and during events I organise at the cinema I manage, and able to think about everyone else instead of me. I have always planned ahead but now I plan time for me before the event starts and use my hypnotic anchor points to get back on track” (Read more about Lesley’s experience with Hypnosis)Lesley Simpson
I would like to recommend Rebecca Armstrong who is an amazing hypnotherapist. I have been presenting more and more as part of my role, and went to Rebecca to try and tackle the pre-nerves that build up, but to date had not been able to conquer. Her wonderful and deep relaxation techniques, and being able to finally identify the core of my nerves has been a turn around point. I would go back just to have that deep relaxation – it was so rejuvenating. Thanks Rebecca!Caroline Sandford
“By my orthodontist’s reckoning I had the worst overbite she had seen, which resulted in my top teeth rubbing below the gums of my lower teeth and the lower teeth rubbing behind my upper front teeth (my jaw had progressively moved and in the process I ground down my lower teeth to half their original size). It made eating painful and slow, as hard foods rubbed and inflamed my gums, and by my late 40’s I was pretty much only eating soups, or blitzing my meal in a blender! After several years of wearing braces it was obvious that I would have to undergo jaw surgery to correct the problem, by cutting the lower jaw on both sides, moving it forward and reattaching it (the resulting metalwork looks impressive in airport x-rays, if a bit robotic!) and then having my teeth rebuilt up.
My operation also had to include repairing a collapsed sinus on one side and inserting a bone graft ‘harvested’ from another part of the jawbone – when everything had healed a new tooth was then implanted onto the new bone. I had an awesome team of specialists involved in the whole process – orthodontist, periodontist, prosthodontist, and maxillofacial surgeon – all of whom were so good at what they did that I faced complex surgery knowing that I was in the very best hands.
Despite this confidence in their ability I realised that I had some anxieties about how at 53 years of age I would recover and heal after a nearly 5 hour operation. Which is where the most influential person joined the team of professionals helping me – my wonderful clinical hypnotherapist, Rebecca Armstrong. I can truly credit my amazing healing to the sessions we had, both to address any anxieties I had but especially to speed the healing process. I had a follow-up appointment with my surgeon within a couple of weeks of having the op, during which he was so impressed with how advanced I was in the healing process that he asked the prosthodontist to pop straight over to also see the result – he also was totally surprised!
During the five years of treatment I had been congratulated by all these top professionals for my positive attitude as they really understood how daunting it was likely to be – and yet they all agreed that my rate of healing was what impressed them the most. I was very happy to explain how beneficial the hypnotherapy had been.
I have always been a firm believer in the amazing power of the mind. I knew I had complete confidence in my surgeon, his team of nurses and the anaesthetist. I therefore knew the operation would be successful. My only anxiety (that I was consciously aware of) was about how long it might take for me to recover.
I am completely in awe of what Rebecca and I achieved – what we covered in our sessions definitely and measurably allowed me to optimally heal and recover far more quickly”.Jane
“Rebecca worked with me recently to help with some mental blocks I was having during a career transition. I didn’t know what to expect from hypnotherapy but Rebecca’s warm and welcoming personality helped me to feel comfortable immediately. After only a couple of sessions I am so much more positive and have the most incredible sense of clarity. Thank you so much Rebecca”.Kelly
“I went to Rebecca for help with several chronic health conditions and the associated stress this was causing. I wanted to supplement physical treatment with something that would not just address the psychological issues but utilise the potential of my mind to help my physical body.
I have meditated for years, but struggled to find guided meditations that would help target the areas I wanted to focus on.
I’ve really enjoyed working with Rebecca. She listens to what you want to achieve and integrates this into the hypnotherapy sessions, sometimes in quite creative ways. She is also very knowledgeable about how the subconscious mind works and how this contributes to our physical reality, so can also help with stress-busting techniques that don’t involve hypnotherapy.
A lot of people are dubious about hypnotherapy but I say give it a try if you are interested in a holistic approach to problems whether it’s a phobia, stress or a health issue”.SN
“I started working with Rebecca to learn how to let go and cope with the challenges of life. I felt I needed a change in my life, little did I know that the change needed was to come from within. Rebecca’s easy manner enables me to structure our session to what I need at that time and I now find I can get to a deeper relaxed state with more ease. At first I used the recorded scripts on a regular basis and now use them when I feel the need. I have learnt more about myself, deal with life’s challenges differently, and have become a calmer person who has more self-belief in my own abilities. My two teenage daughters have also had the benefit of working with Rebecca. Like the ‘recorded scripts’ our sessions are not as frequent, this I put down to the quality of work we got through in the early sessions”Chrissy
